This spot held at least 50 Lady’s Slippers

We were in Maine for a few days when the Lady’s Slippers (Cyprepedium acaule) were in bloom.  This was a good year for them and a place where we often see them along our walk had more than 50 plants.  They like rocky locations and one of the most amazing of these native orchids had chosen a piece of ledge with scarcely any soil at all.  The spot made a little wild rock garden with some Bunchberry plants in flower.
